Recommendation for Licensure
To be eligible for recommendation by the University of Mississippi for licensure, students must successfully complete an approved certification program at UM.
Candidates seeking initial licensure in Mississippi must pass the appropriate standardized tests to qualify. Elementary, Secondary and Special Education majors must take two Praxis II exams (Praxis II – Principles of Learning and Teaching; Praxis II in content field). Educational Leadership graduates are required to take the Student Leader Licensure Assessment (SLLA) exam. To learn more about these exams, candidates may go to www.ets.org for practice tests, study guides, and to register. Approved Add-On Endorsement Programs
The University of Mississippi offers add-on endorsement programs in the following areas: Driver’s Education, Early Childhood Education, Emotional Disability Education, Gifted Education, Special Education, and Wellness and Physical Activity.
Applying for Licensure
Teacher candidates are responsible for following the appropriate steps for applying for licensure in Mississippi through the Educator Licensure Management System (ELMS). Instructions for navigating the ELMS process can be found here.
